Life often takes us on unexpected journeys, and sometimes those paths require us to make difficult decisions. Today, I want to share my story as I have recently decided to resign from my teaching position to care for my family. This journey is one of courage (with a little anxiety), love, and faith, serving as a testament to the strength we can find in times of trial.
A Difficult Decision
For four and a half years I have taught Pre-K and it has been my absolute dream come true. My classroom was a place where I not only taught academic subjects but also life lessons of empathy and compassion. However, life threw us a hard curveball when my ten-month-old daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy in December.
Faced with the reality of her health challenges, I have made the heart-wrenching decision to step away from my public school teaching role after the completion of this school year. "I never saw this coming, nor is it exactly what I want to do," I shared with my admin, "but my child needs me, and I need to be there for her."
Finding Comfort in Scripture
In such trying times, I find solace in my faith. I often turn to the Bible for comfort and guidance, and I would like to share some of my favorite passages with you.
One of the usual go-to verses is Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
These words remind me that even in the face of uncertainty, I can find peace by entrusting my worries to God. I hold onto this peace as I navigate the challenges of my new reality.
Another verse that resonates with me is Psalm 46:1: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." This passage serves as a reminder that I am never alone and that God's strength is always available to me, especially in times of need.
Embracing Change with Courage
While this transition is undoubtedly going to be difficult, I approach it with courage and grace. I believe that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth and that my new role within my family will allow me to serve with love and dedication.
My decision to prioritize my family's well-being over my professional aspirations is a powerful lesson for me individually. It is a reminder to us all that sometimes, the most important lessons are those that cannot be taught in a classroom.
I hope this story is a poignant reminder of the power of faith, love, and community. As I step away from my teaching role to support my family, I do so with the unwavering belief that God will guide me on this journey. Let us all be inspired by the strength and commitment found in such moments, and let us keep each other in our thoughts and prayers as we navigate new paths.
May we all find comfort in the words of Scripture and the embrace of our communities during our own times of need... and who knows, maybe I'll be back in the classroom sooner than I think??
